Chancellor may have had one of the smallest teams represented at the 2009 VHSL A/AA State Championships, but they made themselves well known.  While only having two athletes competing at the meet, Tyler Sites and Nolan Adams help put the Battlefield District on the map by capturing the highest finish since 2004.

In the 200 IM, Tyler came in seeded outside of the top 16 with a very tough field of competition ahead of him to make it to Saturday’s competition.  Tyler rose to the occasion and had one of the best races of his career dropping over six seconds to make it back.  His time of 2:03.72 brought him back 14th and broke a school record by over four seconds previously held by Lawson Wallace.

In his signature event, the 100 Breaststroke, Tyler bettered his previous time from districts by another one and a half seconds to make it back in his second event.  In the process he once again shattered his own record, lowering the mark to 1:03.96.

On Saturday Tyler numerically did not have his best day, but improved his position in the 100 Breast to finish 14th place in both of his races including the 200 IM.  This marks the first time in four years that a male Chancellor swimmer has scored at the State Championships.  His efforts helped the team to a 38th place overall finish, third in the district behind King George and James Monroe.

Fellow athlete Nolan Adams had a valiant effort in his 50 free, but was troubled by a late start that stopped him at the 31st position.  Nolan easily made up a lot of ground in the rest of the swim, but ran out of time and could not advance to Saturday’s competition.  He finishes off his career having been the Battlefield District Champion.

While these two athletes will be departing for college next season, the Chargers have a lot of talent coming into the ranks and hope to improve on their performance from this season.  The 2009-2010 season will begin in November where a whole new group of Chargers will try and break the mark set by their fellow teammates.

The Chancellor Chargers swimmers earned two more births onto the Athletic Honor Roll.  Captains Tyler Hinke and Mary Reynolds were honored for their performances last Friday at Districts.

Tyler was honored for his 18 second drop in the 500 Freestyle.  He also dropped two seconds in the 100 Backstroke to take fourth in the event.

Mary Reynolds scored her first points at the championship meet.  She dropped another second in her 100 Backstroke to take 6th overall in the event.

Two Chargers swimmers will compete in the VHSL A/AA State Championships in three weeks.  The meet will take place on February 27-28 at The University of Virginia.

The Chancellor Chargers had their best showing thisseason taking home three individual championships and numerous top eight finishes on way to taking 3rd overall.

The meet was highlighted by Tyler Sites swimming in the 500 Free and 100 Breast.  The senior just narrowly missed the school record in the 500 Free, however he won the event in grand fashion by lapping almost the entire field.  His time of 5:11.42 was just two seconds away from the previous record set by Lawson Wallace in 2004.  He did however achieve a state championship cut in the event.  His cut in the event marks the third consecutive year he has achieved the championship cut.  In the 100 Breaststroke, Tyler took first by over five seconds shattering the school record he set last week (1:05.40).  Tyler also earned the high point award for the meet.

Nolan Adams stayed undefeated in the 50 Free, by taking his first career championship, and just the Chargers’ fourth in four years.  His time of 23.85 was .34 faster than second place.  Nolan was unable to practice this week, however he muscled his way through and captured the championship.

The guys 400 Freestyle Relay (Adams, Sites, John Schubel, Phillip Allan) picked up a second place, the highest of all Chancellor Relays.  Their time of 3:50.87 was just off their fastest of the season, but good enough to hold off a hard charging King George swimmer to take the runner-up position.

On the girls side, Alle Gick and Leah Schubel led the way for the Chargers.  Alle waited almost the entire night for her first individual swim, but came out of the blocks strong to finish second in the 100 Back.  The highest finish by any Chancellor girl.  She dropped 1.3 seconds to almost outtake take first in the event.  Leah earned a 3rd and a 4th Friday swimming in the 100 Free and 200 Free respectively.  Her time in the 200 (2:14.96) was her fastest all season, and good enough to take a commanding 4th place finish.

The girls 200 Medley Relay (Gick, Brittany Pinheiro, Emily Link, Schubel) had the surprise of the night taking 2nd.  They were seeded a distant 4th, but dropped two seconds to take the runner-up position.

Swimmers making the All-District Team:  Nolan Adams, Austin Adams, Phillip Allan, Tyler Hinkle, John Schubel, Tyler Sites, Tim Stark, Kristen Bradley, Elizabeth Dickinson, Morgan Ellis, Alle Gick, Liz Howard, Julie Jones, Arlyn Kimbrough, Emily Link, Brittany Pinheiro, Mary Reynolds, Leah Schubel, Alexa Shumate.

The Chargers will be off for three weeks until Tyler Sites and Nolan Adams represent the team at the VHSL AA State Championships on February 27-28 at the University of Virginia.

Tyler Sites and Nolan Adams were named to the Free Lance Star’s Athletic Honor Roll for the week of 2/2.

Tyler had a dominating performance on Friday 1/30, breaking a six year old school record in the 100 Breaststroke.  He narrowly broke the record by .04 which was previously held by Jon Hooe in 2003.  He also claimed his 44th career victory in the 100 Fly, just missing the state championship cut by .01.  He finishes the season undefeated.

Nolan Adams walked away with two victories on 1/30 in the 50 and 100 Freestyle events.  He remains undefeated in the 50 Free this season going into the district championships this Friday.  He has made his state cut in that event as well.

The Chargers will compete in the Battlefield District Championships this Friday, February 6th at The University of Mary Washington.  The Chargers ladies will try to capture their second championship in school history, while the guys compete for their first championship.  The meet will begin at 7:15.

For many it was a night of celebration, for few a somber moment as the senior class took the blocks for the final times in their careers.  Nine seniors were honored last evening as the Chargers hosted rival Courtland in the regular season finale.

It was a rough night for both teams as the recent weather put a dampening on practices this week.  Still the Chargers fought hard and showed some impressive things, but in the end fell to the Cougars.

Tyler Sites finished off his duel meet career picking up his 43rd and 44th career victories on way to going undefeated this season.  In addition to being honored as a senior, Tyler put his name down in the illustrious Chancellor High School record book.  Tyler broke the almost six year old 100 Breaststroke record previously held by Jon Hooe.  Tyler’s time of 1:07.12 was .06 seconds faster than the previous record.  He becomes the first swimmer in over four years to break a school record.

Joining Tyler on his double win was once again Nolan Adams who finished up his last duel meet undefeated in the 50 Freestyle this season.

The girls side saw a lot of competition as Courtland took one-two in many events.  The highlights of the evening were the 100 Backstroke and 100 Breaststrokes.  In the 100 Back, Emily Link, Kristen Bradley, Brittany Pinheiro, and Morgan Ellis were able to go second, third and fourth in the event.  In the 100 Breaststroke, Alle Gick, Emma Douglass and Leah Schubel took first, second and third.

Chancellor will swim next week in the Battlefield District Championships as they try to make history and take home the second career title in school history.  The guys have never won the event.  The meet will take place at the University of Mary Washington Friday, February 6th.  The meet will start at 7:15.

Being bogged down by laryngitis didn’t stop John who swam on to collect the double win against Spotsy.  He not only won in grand fashion, he swam personal bests in both the 400 Freestyle and 100 Breaststroke as well as swam a leg on a relay that out swam King George.  For this he was named to the Athletic Honor Roll as well as named Swimmer of the Week.

The Chargers wind up the regular season on Friday with a showdown against Courtland.  It will be senior night at Regency, where eight seniors will swim their last duel meet of their high school careers.  The meet starts at 7 PM.

The Chargers were back in action Friday when they traveled to King George to face the undefeated Foxes in a double-duel meet.  Chancellor fell short again to King George, but picked up very strong victories against Spotsylvania.

Tyler Sites steered clear of any possible dethroning to stay undefeated in competition.  He was a double winner again swimming the 200 IM (2:26.65) and the 100 Backstroke (1:10.22).  Joining him was Nolan Adams who picked up victories again in the 50 (26.59) and 100 (1:02.12) Freestyle.

John Schubel battled laryngitis on Friday, but still double won against Spotsylvania.  His improvements in the 400 Free (5:21.96) and 100 Breast (1:31.58) helped him secure the top spot.

Freshman Alle Gick had another strong showing picking up the double win against Spotsy as well.  She picked up firsts in the 100 Free (1:11.48) and 100 Back (1:19.75).

Freshman Will Dickinson picked up his first career victory in the 100 Fly (1:34.84).

Chancellor will honor it’s eight seniors next Friday as the Chargers host rival Courtland in the final regular season meet.  The Charger women lost by 10 points on December 5th and look to take revenge and momentum into the district championships.  The meet will be at Regency at 7 PM.
