Chargers take home three championships; Finish 3rd overall

02/08/2009

The Chancellor Chargers had their best showing thisseason taking home three individual championships and numerous top eight finishes on way to taking 3rd overall.

The meet was highlighted by Tyler Sites swimming in the 500 Free and 100 Breast.  The senior just narrowly missed the school record in the 500 Free, however he won the event in grand fashion by lapping almost the entire field.  His time of 5:11.42 was just two seconds away from the previous record set by Lawson Wallace in 2004.  He did however achieve a state championship cut in the event.  His cut in the event marks the third consecutive year he has achieved the championship cut.  In the 100 Breaststroke, Tyler took first by over five seconds shattering the school record he set last week (1:05.40).  Tyler also earned the high point award for the meet.

Nolan Adams stayed undefeated in the 50 Free, by taking his first career championship, and just the Chargers’ fourth in four years.  His time of 23.85 was .34 faster than second place.  Nolan was unable to practice this week, however he muscled his way through and captured the championship.

The guys 400 Freestyle Relay (Adams, Sites, John Schubel, Phillip Allan) picked up a second place, the highest of all Chancellor Relays.  Their time of 3:50.87 was just off their fastest of the season, but good enough to hold off a hard charging King George swimmer to take the runner-up position.

On the girls side, Alle Gick and Leah Schubel led the way for the Chargers.  Alle waited almost the entire night for her first individual swim, but came out of the blocks strong to finish second in the 100 Back.  The highest finish by any Chancellor girl.  She dropped 1.3 seconds to almost outtake take first in the event.  Leah earned a 3rd and a 4th Friday swimming in the 100 Free and 200 Free respectively.  Her time in the 200 (2:14.96) was her fastest all season, and good enough to take a commanding 4th place finish.

The girls 200 Medley Relay (Gick, Brittany Pinheiro, Emily Link, Schubel) had the surprise of the night taking 2nd.  They were seeded a distant 4th, but dropped two seconds to take the runner-up position.
